Local Church History
Olde Towne Community Church previously known as Madison 1st Church of God, began as a home-based fellowship on May 15, 1990, when thirteen people met at the home of Nelson and Becky Benson to discuss the possibility of forming a Church of God (Anderson, IN) congregation in the Northeast Jackson area.By June 1990, the group meetings were averaging 15-20 people in attendance. Since the group had become an organized Church of God fellowship, its members voted to give the group a title or name - Northeast Jackson Christian Fellowship. September 1990 was set as the target date to begin holding regular Sunday and Wednesday worship services as an official Church of God congregation.
In August 1990, the church signed a lease on a building located at 741 Hwy 51 North in Madison, and also voted to change its name to First Church of God.
On September 9, 1990, the First Church of God of Madison held its first Sunday worship service which was open to the public. Throughout our journey together, the people of this congregation have seen the faithfulness and power of God to do far beyond what could ever have been imagined.
